Millenium Park

The Millennium Park is one of the most prominent and important land marks of the Chicago city. Plans for building a beautiful park in the heart of Chicago city, that would become a key landmark, started in 1997. In 1998 the construction work began. The park was completed in 2004. It was opened on 16 July 2004 as a part of the three days celebration and an inauguration concert was also held in the park. 300,000 visitors came on the opening ceremony. It is also a major tourist destination. The community living around the millennium park is  becoming the most fashionable residents in the city. Mayor of the Chicago city also announced that he too is moving in that residential area around the Millennium Park.

There are three notable features of the millennium park. One is the Pritzker pavilion, crown gate and the crown fountain. Pritzker pavilion, designed by Frank Gehry, has 4000 fixed seats and 7000 additional seats can also be placed. One of the other feature of the millennium park is the cloud gate which is designed by the world renowned artist Anish Kapoor.

Millennium Park is heavily funded and the project is known for its tripled costs and its delays. Some people also said the millennium park is not for this millennium, in fact it is for the next. During its construction many structures were redesigned and added in the park. the total budget of the park at he end of its construction was bout $500 million.
